La Preciosa, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

We only had less than a day in Laoag, so Jingjing and I were bent on making the most of our stay. We skipped breakfast that day because we woke up late (that's what happens when you spend the entire night talking) and headed directly to the Museo Ilocos Norte.

After about an hour of discovery and learning, we decided it was time for an early lunch. We wanted to go to an authentic Ilocano restaurant and try authentic Ilocano food. We asked the people in the museum and most of them recommended Saramsam and La Preciosa. Jingjing and I decided to try the latter.

La Preciosa is an old house converted into a restaurant. It is located in Rizal Street, about three to five minutes by tricycle from the town center. The interiors are simple but pretty. Jingjing and I had lunch at the downstairs dining area and then transferred to the second floor area for our dessert.

The place was almost filled with people that day. We also bumped into Sari Yap's group again (we bumped into them at the airport when we arrived). We took the chance to have our picture taken with her. She's one of my Life Heroes. I am quite inspired by how she started Mega Magazine.

For lunch, we ordered bagnet, dinuguan, and adobong kangkong. I found the food a bit salty, but salty is better than not seasoned at all, right? :D For dessert, I ordered carrot cake and Jingjing had strawberry cheesecake. And I must say, the carrot cake was the most delicious I have ever tried! No wonder it is one of the most popular cakes in La Preciosa. It is indeed a must-try. Take it from someone who is not a cake person and who doesn't really like carrots.

What I loved most about La Preciosa though was the service -- it was fast and everyone was so friendly, they made us feel like they've known us forever.

  1. Hi Aileen, that's a wonderful find! Ive visited Laoag but never had a chance to dine at La Preciosa. This reminds me of Cafeno in Batangas which also a "converted house". They're much of a coffee shop though. I'm getting a holiday this July so i hope to be able to visit Laoag again. Cheers!

  2. Hi Sydney, thanks for the link! Old houses turned into cafes are very charming, no? :) Don't skip La Preciosa when you visit Laoag again. :)
